Strengthening Transformation: Participatory Planning and Natural Resources Management – Curriculum Development

2012-2013 DAAD collaborative programme

Project leader: Prof. Dr. Sabine Schlüter

The DAAD programme “Transformation partnerships with universities in the transition countries Egypt and Tunisia” aims to establish new curricular contents and sustainable academic structures for study programs offered by participating universities. A strong need for interdisciplinary curricula was identified in order to equip engineers and graduates of other applied sciences to meet the demands of a changing society. The prevailing technology oriented approach to problem solving shall be accompanied and someday replaced by a more inclusive concept of planning and management. The PartNaR project is an academic cooperation between the Institute for Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics (ITT) as an independent unit of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) and the Department of Water Resources and the Department of Urban Planning of the Faculty of Engineering at the Ain-Shams-University (ASU), Cairo. In the scope of the project curricular contents will be revised, contemporary higher education didactics will be applied and a theoretical just as practical advance in good university governance at the ASU is targeted. Thereby it aims to have a visible and rapid impact in supporting the governance transformation in Egypt.
