LUCCi Stakeholder Workshop on Scenario Development

End of February, beginning of March, the provincial governments People´s Committees in Quang Nam and Da Nang were visited by the LUCCi team in order to assure their support of the land and water management strategies developed within the LUCCi project. The vice governors of both provinces confirmed that the scenarios developed by the consortium will be considered in future planning. A further workshop with the provincial government to discuss the scenarios and strategies for the project region VuGiaThu Bon river basin was suggested for mid 2013.

On 1st of march, a workshop with the LUCCi consortium and the public and private stakeholders related to hydropower development, water management, meteorological service and land use planning was organized in Da Nang. The workshop was divided into the joint symposium in the morning where presentations of different stakeholders were held and working groups dealing with future developments for the timeline 2020 and 2050 in the land use planning, water and hydropower sector.

New master program in Global Challenges and Leadership

The Master of Science in Global Challenges and Leadership (GCL) is a value-based interdisciplinary program focusing on issues of poverty, human development, and environmental challenges in the Middle East and Africa. It is a four semester program at the University of Jordan in cooperation with the Lund University, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS). The teaching at CUAS will be focused on water studies.The students will spend three out of four semesters at the University of Jordan. They will spend the first semester of the second year at one of the partner universities in Europe, further exposing them to different academic environments and cultures.

Annual TERMA Lecturer Seminar

The annual lecturers seminar of the MSc TERMA (Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics) took place on 19th February 2013. 16 lecturers met in order to discuss current developments of the TERMA master program. As a main focus, the restructuring and competence-oriented teaching structure have been addressed. Initiated working groups presented their recent achievements and the participants had the chance to discuss the results as well as the realization and implementation.

Afterwards the participants joined an informal meeting in order to exchange their experiences and continue the discussion among each other.

Workshop on “Sustainable Development and Climate Change focusing on mitigation and adaptation strategies”

A three day thematic Workshop on “Sustainable Development and Climate Change focusing on mitigation and adaptation strategies” was organized by the Multidisciplinary Program of Postgraduate Studies in Environmental Sciences (PMPCA-UASLP), in collaboration with the Center for Natural Resources and Development  (CNRD). The workshop took place in Mexico from January 9th to 11th, 2013. The workshop was structured by a diverse group of activities: planned lectures, work sessions, presentations and roundtable discussions guided by group moderators.

The workshop’s aim was to enhance the understanding of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, focusing on mitigation and adaptation strategies in a regional scope. Furthermore, it also focused on the development of opportunities for strong partnerships between the business sector, governmental institutions, Mexican researchers and ENREM students that can collaborate within the scope of their master theses. This new approach could develop strong partnerships, new projects, and a variety of joint-research topics in the field of adaptation and mitigation techniques.

Professors and researchers from the ITT, UASLP, UNAM and important international figures in the field of the Climate Change took part at the workshop: Dr. Mahesh Pradhan – Head of UNEP’s Environmental Education and Training Unit within the Division of Environmental Policy Implementation, and Dr. Victor Magaña – Member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Mexico.

Third ENREM Lecturer Seminar in San Luis Potosí

ENREM is dedicated to its continuous improvement and as part of this initiative, it organizes periodical seminars that allow an intensive exchange between its Mexican and German lecturers. Committed to this goal, the following event was held in January 2013 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico:

The third ENREM Lecturer Seminar took place in the Agenda Ambiental from January 7th to 8th, 2013. A total of 25 lecturers from the ITT-PMPCA attended the seminar. Several topics were discussed, including: how to enhance supervision techniques between students and tutors; the incorporation of a better feedback methodology for the management and coordination team; requirements and expected results of future theses; and coming up with ideas on how to optimize the definition and development of common ITT-PMPCA research topics in Mexico.
